Privacy Policy
My Bowling Journey is run by My Bowling Journey LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company. This policy explains exactly what the app collects, why, who else can see it, and how to get rid of it.
The short version
We collect your email address so you can sign in, and the bowling data you enter. We ask for your location only when you search for a bowling center, and for a photo only when you import a scorecard. We do not sell your data, we do not show advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
You can export everything from Settings at any time, and you can have it all deleted — see Deleting your account.
What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | When you sign in | It is your account. Signing in works by emailing you a link, so we need an address to send it to. |
| Your bowler name | During setup | It appears on your scores and is how teammates find you when they send an invitation. |
| Bowling data | As you use the app | Shots, frames, scores, sessions, leagues, teams, tournaments, your ball arsenal, lane patterns, goals and coaching notes. This is the point of the app. |
| Approximate location | Only when you search for a center | To find bowling centers near you. Your device asks permission first, and if you decline, the search falls back to your saved home center. We do not store your coordinates or track your movement. |
| Photos | Only when you import a scorecard | To read the scores off the picture. We never access your camera roll on our own — you choose the image each time. |
| Error diagnostics | Automatically, when something breaks | So we can fix bugs. See below for what this actually contains. |
| Notification token | Only in the Android app, once you allow notifications | A code from Google that lets us send your phone a notification, for example when a teammate sends you a request. It is removed when you sign out. |
What the error diagnostics actually contain
When the app hits an error, it records what kind of error it was, where in the app it happened, an error code, and a count of how many times it has occurred. Error messages are redacted before they are stored, and reports are only sent for signed-in accounts. We do not capture your screen, your keystrokes, or the contents of what you were entering.
Who else sees it
We use a small number of service providers to run the app. Each one only receives what it needs to do its job, and none of them are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Your account and all your bowling data | Database, authentication and hosting for the app's backend |
| Google (Gemini) | Scorecard photos you import; questions you ask the in-app assistant; summarised statistics when you run Insights; for a Nightcap, a summary of your night, including the bowler names of teammates who were hung or missed a lone 5 that night | Reading scores from a photo, and generating answers and observations |
| Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) | Your phone's notification token, and the text of each notification: at most the bowler name of the person it is about and a team name; for Live League alerts you asked for, also a score or a number of strikes from a bowler who shares live, or a team's game and points | Delivering notifications to your phone |
| HERE Technologies | Approximate coordinates, only at the moment you search for a center | Finding bowling centers near a location |
| Resend | Your email address | Delivering your sign-in link |
| GitHub Pages | Standard web request information | Hosting the web version of the app |
| Cloudflare | Standard web request information; emails you send to our support address | Our domain, and forwarding support email to us |
| Google Play | Your subscription purchase, if you subscribe in the Android app | Taking payment and managing the subscription, as the seller of record |
| Stripe (through Link) | Your email address and your subscription purchase, if you subscribe on the web | Taking payment and managing the subscription, as the seller of record. We never see your full card details. |
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising or for anyone else's marketing.
What other bowlers can see
Nothing you record is visible to another bowler unless you set up a connection that shares it. There are exactly four, and they differ in how much they share:
| Connection | What they can see |
|---|---|
| Teammates | Your bowler name, and the sessions and shots you recorded for that team — those only. Your practice, your other leagues and any other teams stay private. |
| Friends | Once you both accept, each of you can see the other's sessions and shots. This is not limited to a shared team or league — it is your recorded bowling generally. |
| A coach you accept | Your sessions and shots, and any notes they write for you. Also not limited to one league. |
| Bowlers at your bowling center, if you share live | Only if you turn on Share my scores live (it is off until you do). One switch covers every night you bowl: league, practice, tournaments and open bowling. Anyone using the app, or a bowling center's live link, can then see your frames and game scores at the center where you bowl, and your nights there over the last 30 days, under your initials or a short name you choose, or your name if you choose to show it. Your teammates see your name. Bowlers in your leagues can also see your league average. Someone without an account whose scores you log shows under their initials, and only while you share. You can turn it off at any time. |
Being in the same league is not sharing
A league is a label on your own records. Someone in your league who is not your teammate, your friend, or your accepted coach cannot see your name or your scores through the app, unless you turn on Live sharing. Even then, they see your initials unless you choose to show your name.
None of these connections happen without you accepting them, and you can end them. Because friends and coaches see more than teammates do, it is worth only accepting those from people you are happy to show your bowling to.
How long we keep it
Your data stays for as long as your account exists, because a bowling history is only useful over time. When you delete your account we delete your data, other than anything we are required to keep for security, fraud prevention or legal compliance — which in practice means limited records of abuse or misuse, kept no longer than necessary.
We keep backups of the database for up to 30 days, so that data can be recovered after an error. Data from a deleted account can remain in those backups until they expire; it is never restored or used, and it is gone once the last backup containing it is deleted.
Two things deletion does not take with it. If another bowler recorded something about you in their own records — a teammate logging a match you both bowled — that belongs to their account, not yours, much as a printed scoresheet would. And a league or team you created stays if other bowlers are still using it, so they don't lose it because you left; it just stops showing you as its creator. One that nobody else is in is deleted with everything else. Your own records, your name and your account are always deleted.
Deleting your account and your data
How to delete everything
In the app: Settings → Danger Zone → Delete My Account. You type your email address to confirm, and your account and everything in it are removed immediately. You don't need to ask us or wait.
If you no longer have the app: email [email protected] from the address on your account. We'll confirm it's you and delete it within 30 days. Full instructions are on the account deletion page.
Export first if you want a copy. Settings → Backup & Restore gives you everything you have recorded, as a file you keep. Deletion cannot be undone, and we cannot recover your history afterwards.
Your choices
- Location — your device asks before the app can use it, and you can refuse or revoke it in your device settings. Center search still works using your saved home center.
- Photos — you choose each image individually. The app never browses your library.
- Export — available any time from Settings.
- Deletion — see above.
- Email — we only email you what the app needs to work, such as your sign-in code. We do not send marketing email. If we ever do, it will only be to people who have opted in, and every message will have a way to unsubscribe.
- Notifications — Android asks before the app can send them. You can switch each kind off in Settings, or turn them all off in your phone's settings.
- Live — sharing is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time on the Live screen, where you also choose whether your name or your initials are shown. Who you follow, and the alerts you get, are changed or stopped there too.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- see the personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it (most of it is in the export in Settings already);
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete it — see Deleting your account above;
- withdraw your consent to us using it, which in practice means deleting your account, because the app cannot work without it;
- tell you how it is used, who it is shared with, and where it is handled.
Email [email protected] from the address on your account. We will not charge you, and we will reply within 20 working days. If we cannot do something you ask, we will tell you why.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the privacy regulator where you live:
- Canada — the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, priv.gc.ca. In Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information, cai.gouv.qc.ca.
- Australia — the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, oaic.gov.au.
- New Zealand — the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, privacy.org.nz.
- Japan — the Personal Information Protection Commission, ppc.go.jp.

- United States — your state attorney general (in Puerto Rico, the Department of Justice), or the Federal Trade Commission.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Access to your data is restricted to your own account by database-level security rules. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise — but you never create a password with us: you sign in with Google or with a code or link we email you, so there is no password of yours that we hold or that could be reused elsewhere. Backups are stored encrypted.
If a security breach puts your information at real risk of harm, we will tell you, and the regulators who need to know, as quickly as we can and as the law where you live requires.
Children
Children under 13 should not create their own account. The app is not directed at them and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child who has signed up on their own. If a child has created an account without a parent's or guardian's knowledge, email us and we will delete it — you do not need to explain yourself.
In Quebec and in South Korea, a young person under 14 needs a parent's or guardian's consent to have an account.
In India, anyone under 18 is a child under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and needs a parent's or guardian's consent to have an account. We never track a child's behaviour or show a child targeted advertising — the app has no advertising at all. Wherever the law where you live sets a higher age than these, that age applies.
Tracking your child's bowling is a different thing, and it's fine
Plenty of parents want to keep a record of a young bowler's games. You can do that under your own account, exactly as you would on a paper scoresheet — add them as a bowler and record their games alongside your own. The child does not need an account and does not get one.
You stay the account holder throughout: you decide what is recorded, what name goes on it, and who — if anyone — you share it with. You can export or delete all of it at any time. What you choose to record about your own child is your call to make.
If a child of 13 or older wants an account of their own, that is between you and them. Bear in mind that the sharing described above applies to their account the same as anyone else's.
Where your data is handled
We are based in the United States and our service providers process data in the United States. If you use the app from Canada, Australia, New Zealand or anywhere else outside the US, your information is transferred to and handled in the US.
The protection it gets there comes from us and from our contracts with the providers listed above, which only allow them to use it to provide their service to us and require them to keep it secure. US privacy law is not the same as the law where you live, and US courts and authorities may be able to require access to information held in the US.
If you live in Japan
This part is for bowlers in Japan, under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI).
- Which country your information goes to. The United States. The service providers listed under "Who else sees it" handle it there on our behalf.
- The privacy law there. The United States has no single national privacy law like the APPI. The Federal Trade Commission acts against unfair or deceptive handling of personal information, and some states, such as California, have their own privacy laws. Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission publishes information about other countries' systems at ppc.go.jp.
- How it stays protected. Each provider is bound by a contract that only lets it use your information to provide its service to us and requires it to keep that information secure — measures equivalent to those the APPI requires. We check that they keep to it, and on request we will tell you what those measures are and how we check them.
- What we do ourselves (safety management measures): one named person is responsible for personal information (see Contact below); only he can reach bowlers' data outside the app; the database only lets each account read its own data and what others chose to share with it; everything travels encrypted; backups are encrypted and kept on an encrypted device; and nothing is kept on paper.
- Your requests. You can ask us to disclose the personal information we hold about you, to correct, add to or delete it, to stop using it or stop providing it to others, and to disclose the records of what we have provided to others. Email the address below from the address on your account. There is no charge.
If you live in Singapore
Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012, our data protection officer is Ryan Everett, reachable at [email protected]. You can ask for access to and correction of your personal data, and withdraw your consent, as described under "Your rights". When your data is handled in the United States, our contracts with the providers listed above require them to protect it to a standard comparable to Singapore's.
If you live in Malaysia
This notice is given under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 and is also available in Bahasa Malaysia: Dasar Privasi. Giving us your email address is needed to create an account; everything else you choose to log. You can ask to access and correct your personal data, and to limit how it is used, as described under "Your rights". Your data is handled in the United States under contracts that require the providers to protect it.
If you live in the Philippines
Under the Data Privacy Act of 2012 you have the right to be informed, to access, to object, to have your data corrected or erased, to data portability (the export in Settings), and to damages, and you can complain to the National Privacy Commission. For any of these, contact our data protection officer, Ryan Everett, at [email protected]. Your data is handled in the United States under contracts that require the providers to protect it.
If you live in Mexico
This is our privacy notice under the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties. The party responsible for your personal data is My Bowling Journey LLC, 1319 Mifflin St, Huntingdon, PA 16652, USA. The data we handle and the purposes are set out above; none of it is sensitive personal data, and every purpose is needed to provide the app. Your data is handled in the United States by the providers listed under "Who else sees it", on our behalf and under contracts that require them to protect it.
You can exercise your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition (ARCO rights), or withdraw your consent, by emailing [email protected] from the address on your account and saying which right you want to exercise. We will reply within 20 working days. This notice is also available in Spanish: Política de privacidad.
If you live in South Korea
This part is for bowlers in South Korea, under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). It is also available in Korean: 개인정보 처리방침.
- What we handle and why. The items and purposes are in "What we collect, and why" above. We handle them because they are needed to provide the app you signed up for. We do not handle sensitive information or resident registration numbers.
- Your location. In South Korea the app does not use your device's location. Searching for a center always starts from the middle of the country, never from where you are or where you bowl.
- How long we keep it, and how we destroy it. As set out in "How long we keep it". When your account is deleted, your data is erased from the database at once so it cannot be recovered, and the backups that still contain it are deleted within 30 days. We keep nothing on paper.
- Giving it to others. We do not give your personal information to third parties for their own use, except where the law requires it. The providers listed under "Who else sees it" process it on our behalf, only to provide their service to us.
- Transfer overseas. The app is run from the United
States, so using it means your information is transferred there:
- Recipients and what they receive: the providers in the table under "Who else sees it" (Supabase, Google, HERE Technologies, Resend, GitHub, Cloudflare, and Google Play or Stripe if you subscribe), each receiving only what that table lists, for the purpose it gives. Each provider's privacy contact is in its own privacy policy.
- Country: the United States.
- When and how: over an encrypted network connection, at the moment you use the feature that needs it.
- How long they keep it: our database keeps it as described in "How long we keep it"; the other providers keep it only as long as they need to provide their service to us.
- Refusing the transfer: the app runs entirely on these services, so it cannot be used without the transfer. You can refuse by not creating an account, or by deleting your account at any time.
- How we keep it safe. One named person is responsible for personal information and is the only one who can reach bowlers' data outside the app; the database lets each account read only its own data and what others chose to share with it; everything travels encrypted; backups are encrypted.
- Cookies. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking. The app keeps your sign-in and settings in your device's own storage; signing out or clearing the site data removes them.
- Your rights. You can ask to see your personal information, to correct or delete it, to stop us processing it, and to withdraw your consent, yourself or through a representative. Email the address below from the address on your account. There is no charge, and we will reply within 10 days.
- Privacy officer (개인정보 보호책임자): Ryan Everett, [email protected].
- If you need help from outside. The Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee, kopico.go.kr, 1833-6972; the Privacy Infringement Report Center run by KISA, privacy.kisa.or.kr, 118.
If you live in Hong Kong
This is our notice under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance. We collect your personal data for the purposes set out in "What we collect, and why". Giving us your email address is needed to create an account; everything else you choose to log. Your data may be transferred to the service providers listed under "Who else sees it", in the United States, only so they can provide their service to us. We do not use your data for direct marketing. You can ask for access to and correction of your personal data by writing to our privacy officer, Ryan Everett, at [email protected]. There is no charge, and we reply within 40 days.
If you live in India
This is our notice under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
- What we process and why. Each item of personal data, and what it is used for, is listed in "What we collect, and why". We process it with the consent you give when you create your account, and only for those purposes.
- Withdrawing consent. You can withdraw it as easily as you gave it: delete your account in Settings, or email us. Your data is then erased as described in "Deleting your account and your data".
- Your rights. You can ask for a summary of the personal data we hold about you and what we do with it, and who we have shared it with; ask us to correct, complete, update or erase it; and nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to.
- Grievances. Write to Ryan Everett at [email protected]. We reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
- Where it goes. The United States, to the providers listed under "Who else sees it", under contracts that require them to protect it.
If you live in the United Arab Emirates
Under Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data, we process your data with the consent you give when you create an account, and because it is needed to provide the app you signed up for. You can ask for information about your data and a copy of it (the export in Settings), and ask us to correct, erase or restrict it, or to stop processing it. The app makes no decision about you based only on automated processing. Your data is handled in the United States by the providers listed under "Who else sees it", under contracts that require them to protect it; creating an account means you consent to that transfer. Email [email protected] from the address on your account. You can also complain to the UAE Data Office.
If you live in Costa Rica
Under Law No. 8968 on the Protection of Persons with regard to the Processing of their Personal Data, you give your informed consent when you create an account, and you can withdraw it at any time by deleting your account. You have the right to access your data and to have it corrected or deleted, free of charge: email [email protected] from the address on your account. Our database is used only to run the app; it is not distributed, disclosed or sold to anyone. It is held in the United States by the providers listed under "Who else sees it". You can complain to PRODHAB. This notice is also available in Spanish: Política de privacidad.
If you live in Bermuda
Under the Personal Information Protection Act 2016, our privacy officer is Ryan Everett, reachable at [email protected]. We use your personal information fairly and only for the purposes in "What we collect, and why". You can ask to access it, and to have it corrected, blocked, erased or destroyed. It is handled in the United States by the providers listed under "Who else sees it", under contracts that require them to protect it. You can complain to the Privacy Commissioner.
If you live in Taiwan
